Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: describing the job, explaining why it is suitable, and providing application instructions. The tone is appropriate for a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of why the job is suitable relies on a simple connection to the friend's past experience as a packer. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific details about the company culture or why the friend would enjoy living in Toronto, which would better demonstrate the ability to extend and support ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on one of the required points. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. Phrases like 'Furthermore' and 'In the terms of' are used, but the transitions between sentences could be smoother. Additionally, there are some minor issues with referencing, such as 'this may be suitable job', where the article is missing, slightly disrupting the flow of the sentence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific vocabulary such as 'recruiting', 'organization', and 'resume'. However, there are several spelling errors ('wokers', 'lebeling') and some awkward collocations ('four experience of packer', 'habitual of ten hour shifts'). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of common professional terms. The range of vocabulary is sufficient for a Band 6, but lacks the precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('a suitable job'), incorrect prepositions ('In the terms of'), and awkward phrasing ('that not only helpful to earn'). These errors do not impede communication, but they are noticeable. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while ensuring they are error-free will help you achieve a higher score.
