Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Raman,

I hope you are doing well. Last month, you wrote about finding a job for me in my country. There is good news: I have found a job that is suitable for you, as you have a bachelor's in nursing and 2 years of nursing experience. My mother is a nurse in a private hospital, and she told me that there is a vacancy for a nurse in their hospital. They are looking for a full-time nurse with experience. The main responsibilities are to look after the patients. One important thing is that they need a person who is able to work at any time of the day.

In my opinion, you are the best match for this job as you are a qualified and registered nurse and you a an experince of this profession too. They are offering 50 $ per hour and are also ready to pay your fare. As well as they provide you with an apartment to reside near the hospital.

I hope you like this offer an will apply for this job. Best wishes for your job and future.

Yours faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly described the nursing position and its responsibilities, explained why your friend is a suitable candidate based on their qualifications, and provided information on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the communication is clear throughout. To improve, you could provide slightly more specific details regarding the application process, such as mentioning a website link or a contact person, to make the advice more practical and fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'In my opinion' and 'As well as' to link your ideas. However, the transition between the job description and the application process could be smoother. Some of the paragraphing is a bit disjointed, and the use of cohesive devices is occasionally mechanical. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider range of linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas flows more naturally between sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'vacancy', 'responsibilities', and 'qualified'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'you a an experince' (you have experience) and 'pay your fare' (which might be better phrased as 'cover your travel expenses'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, it lacks the variety and precision required for higher bands. Incorporating more sophisticated collocations related to employment would enhance your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'you a an experince' and 'I hope you like this offer an will apply'. Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors throughout the text. The majority of your sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these small errors prevents a higher score. Focusing on proofreading your work to catch subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve your accuracy.
