A friend you made while you were studying abroad has written to ask you for help in finding a job in your country. You have heard about a job in a local company that might be suitable for him/her.
Write a letter to this friend. In your letter

- say why you think the job would be suitable for him/her
- explain how to apply for the job
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear ................. ,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sam,
I hope this letter finds you in good health. Its been a long time we caught up with each other. I am delighted to know that you are deciding to move to Canada and looking for a job here.
I know that it would be really hard for you to adjust here especially when you do not have any job so last week in my company there is opening for caseworker. In this job you need to attend phone calls and facilitate customers about their inquiries.
This job would be suitable for you because you already had experience in this field in Australia as you worked in the immigration office. They are going to pay you good salary and you do not need any training because you already familiar with the work.
To apply for this opening you could visit to their website and add my name as reference. I have enclosed every detail of the company with this letter.
I hope this information would be helpful for you to apply for the job.
Best Regards,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the caseworker role, explain why your friend's previous experience in Australia makes them a strong candidate, and provide instructions on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and helpful persona throughout. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed to meet the requirements of the task. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more specific detail about the company or the nature of the 'inquiries' to further flesh out the scenario.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs covering the specific requirements, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a distinct aspect of the task. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic. While you use transitions like 'In this job' and 'To apply for this opening', the flow between sentences could be improved with a wider variety of linking words or better pronoun referencing to avoid repetitive sentence structures. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal/semi-formal letter format.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'facilitate', 'inquiries', and 'reference' correctly. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'deciding to move' (should be 'planning to move') and 'you already familiar with' (missing the verb 'are'). The vocabulary is functional and conveys the intended meaning clearly, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score. Expanding your use of collocations would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are several grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. For example, 'Its been a long time we caught up' should be 'It has been a long time since we caught up', and 'there is opening' should be 'there is an opening'. Additionally, 'visit to their website' is incorrect; it should simply be 'visit their website'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage would improve your accuracy.
