You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear ................. ,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Hannah

I am writing to inform you about the job I found on Facebook. It involves the need of a medical laboratory scientist which was the course you studied at Alberta University, Poland. Also you informed me about your need for a job here in my country.

The hospital is located at Main Avenue, not too far from my apartment and the laboratory section just got renovated and some new appliances like a centrifuge, a microscope and an incubator was imported from Japan. It involves kidney function tests, liver function tests, Spirometry, HBsAg and others. I believe this will help to improve your skills in your profession.

The application process is still open and you need to send your curriculum vitae, letter and license to their email address ([redacted email]).

Thank you . I would appreciate if you address this issue promptly and get back to me about their response

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly describe the job, explain why it is suitable for your friend, and provide instructions on how to apply. However, the tone is slightly inconsistent. While it is a letter to a friend, the opening 'I am writing to inform you' is overly formal and bureaucratic, sounding more like a business letter than a personal one. Additionally, the closing request to 'address this issue promptly' is quite cold and unnatural for a friendship context. To improve, ensure the tone remains warm and conversational throughout, as this is a key requirement for General Training Task 1.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph addressing a specific part of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Also' and 'The hospital is located', to link ideas. However, the transitions between sentences are sometimes a bit mechanical. For instance, the jump from mentioning the laboratory equipment to listing specific medical tests is abrupt. Using more varied linking words or phrases to connect the equipment to the nature of the work would improve the flow. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is very short and could be better integrated into the overall structure of the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using technical terms like 'centrifuge', 'microscope', and 'Spirometry'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices. For example, 'the need of a medical laboratory scientist' should be 'the need for a medical laboratory scientist' or 'a vacancy for a medical laboratory scientist'. Additionally, 'address this issue' is not appropriate here; you are offering a job opportunity, not resolving a problem. Expanding your vocabulary to include more natural, idiomatic expressions suitable for a friendly letter would help you achieve a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors that affect accuracy. For example, 'some new appliances... was imported' contains a subject-verb agreement error (should be 'were imported'). There is also a punctuation error in the final paragraph: 'Thank you . I would appreciate if...' should be 'Thank you. I would appreciate it if...'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will help improve your accuracy.
