Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Alex,
I hope everything is going well on your end. I am writing to inform you about our recent conversation regarding the job search in Canada. Recently, I was scrolling on LinkedIn and I learnt that our company is hiring for customer service solution representative.
These would be the best role for you as you have experience of customer service at your previous job. Also, the pay and the benefits are amazing. Furthermore, your role will be managing customer service representative and providing solution for their questions or concerns.
From my perspective, it is the best opportunity for your professional growth. Moreover, there are also high chances of internal promotion because of less staff members and co-operate company structure.
However, if you want to apply for this job please let me know, I can use my referral and increase the chance of getting an interview. Also, I will share you all the details regarding job posting and referral link which will show how to apply.
Please don't hesitate if you have any question or concerns. All the best for the job search.
Your friend,
Bhoutik

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the task. You clearly describe the role, explain why it is a good fit based on the friend's experience, and provide instructions on how to apply via a referral. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and helpful register throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant, ensuring the reader understands both the nature of the job and the specific benefits of applying. The purpose of the letter is clear from the outset, and all requirements of the prompt are met effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'However' to link your ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be more natural; for instance, the jump between the job description and the application process is slightly abrupt. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and the progression of ideas is logical and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'professional growth' and 'internal promotion' are used effectively. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'co-operate company structure' (should be 'corporate') and 'share you all the details' (should be 'share all the details with you'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over collocations. Expanding your vocabulary to include more idiomatic expressions or precise professional terminology would further enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'These would be the best role' (should be 'This would be the best role') and 'less staff members' (should be 'fewer staff members'). Additionally, 'providing solution for their questions' should be 'providing solutions to their questions'. Despite these occasional errors, the meaning is always clear, and the grammar does not hinder the reader's understanding. To reach a higher band, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of quantifiers like 'fewer' versus 'less'.
