Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: it describes the job, explains why it is suitable, and provides instructions on how to apply. However, the development of these ideas is quite limited. The description of the job as 'looking at city site' is vague, and the explanation of suitability relies on repetitive phrasing. While the tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, the lack of detail and the informal, somewhat disjointed structure prevent it from reaching a higher band. To improve, you should expand on the nature of the work and provide more specific, coherent reasons for why your friend would be a good fit.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter is divided into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression of ideas is weak. There is a lack of cohesive devices (linking words) to connect sentences, making the flow feel choppy and repetitive. For example, the transition between the job description and the application process is abrupt. The use of punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing capital letters at the start of sentences and improper spacing, which disrupts the reader's ability to follow the text easily. Improving the use of transition words like 'furthermore,' 'consequently,' or 'additionally' would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. You rely on simple terms like 'good,' 'easy,' and 'work.' There are also several spelling errors, such as 'felling' (feeling), 'sutable' (suitable), 'experiance' (experience), 'refference' (reference), and 'campare' (compare). These errors are frequent and occasionally hinder the clarity of the message. To achieve a higher band, you need to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary and pay closer attention to spelling and word choice. Using more precise terminology related to professional environments would help elevate the quality of your letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including missing articles, incorrect verb tenses, and run-on sentences. For instance, 'i have one job which will very sutable' lacks a verb, and 'i thinks this job i sutaible' contains subject-verb agreement errors. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the punctuation is largely ignored, with many sentences running into each other without proper capitalization or full stops. These errors are persistent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement and capitalization is essential for improvement.
