Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Harman,
I hope you are doing well. I got your letter last Saturday regarding to your job search. I saw you mentioned that you are looking for a job in my country India. I would love to help you.
Last week, one of my LinkedIn friends shared a post with me that they are hiring for a cashier in their retail handloom store in Chandigarh. The major responsibilities of the job would be handling cash, receiving payments through debit or credit cards and assisting customer if they need any assistance with payments.
This job would be really suitable for you as you mentioned that you recently rented an apartment in Chandigarh and this store is near to your vicinity. You can not only save travel expenses but also travel time which you can utilize for your studies simultaneously.
I will share a link in your email so you can directly apply on their website. The job application procedure is quite easy, You just need to upload your resume and cover letter with your correct phone number and mailing address so that they can reach out to you through mail or call.
Good luck with your job application and hope to hear a good news from you soon.
Yours Sincerely,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly described the cashier role, explained why it is suitable for your friend due to the proximity to their new apartment, and provided a clear explanation of the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and helpful persona throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the task, ensuring the reader understands exactly what is being proposed and why. You have fully satisfied the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the prompt. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from the initial greeting to the job details, the rationale for suitability, and finally the application instructions. You use cohesive devices effectively, such as 'not only... but also' and 'so that', which help connect your ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct topics, making the letter easy to follow. The overall structure is coherent and professional.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for this task, such as 'responsibilities', 'vicinity', and 'simultaneously'. While the vocabulary is generally accurate and natural, there are minor issues with collocation, such as 'regarding to' (should be 'regarding' or 'in regard to') and 'hear a good news' (should be 'hear some good news'). Despite these minor slips, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly and effectively. You successfully use topic-specific language related to job applications and retail work.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. There are some minor grammatical errors, such as 'assisting customer' (should be 'assisting customers') and the comma splice in the final paragraph ('...quite easy, You just need...'). However, these errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. The majority of your sentences are error-free, and you demonstrate good control over punctuation and sentence construction. The use of complex structures, such as the conditional and relative clauses, is generally accurate.
