Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully introduce the job, explain why it is suitable for your friend, and provide clear instructions on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and informal style throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of why the job is suitable could be expanded with more detail regarding the specific skills required or the benefits of the position. Despite this, the purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader is fully informed of the necessary details.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into three distinct paragraphs, each addressing a specific requirement of the task. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'First', 'After', and 'At the end', to sequence the application steps. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is a bit abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect sentences more fluidly, rather than relying on simple list-like structures.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using informal expressions like 'fit as a fiddle' and 'dam sure' (though 'dam' is a spelling error for 'damn'). There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'one of the job' instead of 'one of the jobs' and 'right fir' instead of 'right fit'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more attention to collocations and basic grammatical agreement. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise professional terms related to the restaurant industry would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I got to know about one of the job', 'You have one year experience of working', and 'food cook by you'. These errors, along with punctuation issues like the missing apostrophe in 'i' and 'you'll', occur frequently. To reach a higher band, you should focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and ensuring that verb forms (e.g., 'cooked' instead of 'cook') are accurate. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy is key.
