Dear ................. ,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Harsh,

Hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to inform you about a job vacancy at Raj Transport Company, which is very close to my hometown. I saw their advertisement on Main Street and they are looking for an accountant. By watching that banner you are the one who came to my mind as you are looking for a job here and you have a certificate of degree in this field. According to me, you should apply for this job because it is closest to my house so you do not have to worry about accomodation as well as transportation. Moreover, to apply for this job you can easily visit their website which is www.rajtransport.com or you can drop your resume through e mail which is [redacted email].

They are accepting masses with no experience but as you have 6 months as well and as per my perspective, this is a good opportunity for you. I will wait for your reply and about this job. See you soon.

Yours lovingly,

Ranjodh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter covers all three bullet points: it describes the job, explains why it is suitable, and provides application instructions. The tone is appropriate for a friend, and the purpose is clear. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why the job is suitable relies heavily on the proximity to your house rather than the friend's professional skills or career goals. To reach a higher band, you could expand on how the role aligns with their specific accounting experience or professional interests, rather than focusing primarily on your own convenience. Overall, the task is addressed adequately.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized logically, with a clear opening, body, and closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'as well as' to link ideas. However, the paragraphing is insufficient; the entire body of the letter is presented as one large block of text. Breaking the letter into distinct paragraphs—one for the job description, one for the suitability, and one for the application process—would significantly improve the flow and readability. Additionally, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, such as 'According to me,' which is not a natural way to express an opinion in English.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'vacancy,' 'advertisement,' and 'opportunity.' There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'certificate of degree' (usually just 'degree' or 'qualification') and 'accepting masses' (which is unnatural; 'hiring' or 'recruiting' would be better). The spelling error 'accomodation' (accommodation) and 'e mail' (email) also detract slightly from the overall quality. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring correct spelling of common professional terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentences, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'By watching that banner you are the one who came to my mind' (which is slightly awkward phrasing) and 'as you have 6 months as well' (which is unclear). The sentence structure is generally functional, and these errors do not impede communication. To move to a higher band, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex structures and ensure that your prepositional usage and sentence construction are more precise.
