Student answer (Band 6.0)

Task-1

Dear Baneet,

I hope you are sailing in the same boat when I met you last time. I am writing this letter to tell you about the job as you were saying you are in the difficult times.

In the suburb area, there is a one job posted as a Receptionist in the Hotel. It involves all the desk work and communication with clients to help them in different situations. Such as finding a good room for the stay and other related issues. It also includes the efforts to maintain staff and other managers according to their duties. you also need to fix their schedules according to their availability.

As far as I know you. I think feel like this is the best job for you. Because you have 10 years of experience in this hospitality area, will give a chance to assist in any hard situations. It is posted on one of the website called "job fair" and you just need to click and apply for that.

Thanks

Have a great day

your friend

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully describe the receptionist role, explain why your friend's 10-year hospitality background makes them a strong candidate, and provide instructions on how to apply. However, the tone is occasionally inconsistent; for example, the opening phrase 'sailing in the same boat' is used incorrectly, as it implies you are both currently in the same difficult situation, which may not be the case. While the task is fully addressed, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. To reach a higher band, ensure your opening and closing remarks are more natural and appropriate for a friendly letter.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each addressing a specific requirement of the task. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the job description, the justification, and finally the application method. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical. For instance, the transition between sentences in the second paragraph is a bit choppy. Using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'given your background') would improve the flow and make the connections between your ideas more explicit and natural.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'hospitality area' and 'availability'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choice, such as 'sailing in the same boat' and 'in the suburb area'. Additionally, 'I think feel like' is redundant and informal. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive or filler phrases. While your meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated vocabulary and the presence of minor errors in word choice limit the score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'there is a one job posted' (article error), 'I hope you are sailing in the same boat when I met you' (tense inconsistency), and 'it involves all the desk work' (awkward phrasing). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with sentence fragments like 'Such as finding a good room...'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader and indicate a need for more careful proofreading of basic subject-verb agreement and article usage.
