Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Smit,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am responding to your letter about finding job for you. There are some job vacancies available in my company for Technical support assistance. The duties involve things like troubleshoot, working on Excel and etcetera.

I think this job is satiable for you because you already studied in IT and you have experience of your past jobs as well. Apart from this, this job requires a lot of patience to solve some tricky problems. And you have patience and problem solving skills which makes more suitable for you.

Moreover, you can apply to this job through many ways for example, using some professional job posting sites like LinkedIn, Local job shop and etcetera. Whereas, I would like to suggest to apply through company website so i can give my reference number and it will increase chance for you to get an interview.

Hope to see you soon becoming my colleague.

Yours lovingly,

Vipal Patel.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly identify the job as a Technical Support Assistant, explain why it suits your friend's IT background and patience, and provide instructions on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To improve, ensure you provide more specific details about the 'duties' rather than using vague phrases like 'things like'. Overall, the response is well-focused and addresses the task requirements effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Apart from this', 'Moreover', and 'Whereas' to connect ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or misused, such as 'Whereas' at the start of the final paragraph, which does not fit the context of adding information. Improving the variety and natural flow of linking words would help elevate the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'vacancies', 'professional', and 'colleague'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'satiable' (should be 'suitable') and 'troubleshoot' (should be 'troubleshooting'). The use of 'etcetera' is informal and repetitive. To reach a higher band, try to use more precise vocabulary related to the workplace and avoid relying on generic fillers.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'finding job for you' (missing article 'a'), 'experience of your past jobs' (should be 'from'), and 'increase chance' (missing article 'the'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors with capitalization and sentence fragments. Focusing on article usage and subject-verb agreement will help improve your accuracy.
