Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing the job, explaining why it is suitable, and providing instructions on how to apply. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the description of the job is brief, and the explanation of the application process is informal and lacks professional detail. While the tone is appropriate for a friend, the content could be expanded to provide more helpful information. The response covers the requirements, but the depth of information provided is basic, which limits the score to a 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the transition 'Moreover, you have in hand experience' is slightly awkward, and the use of 'than' instead of 'then' in the third paragraph disrupts the flow. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the lack of sophisticated linking words makes the writing feel somewhat disjointed. Improving the variety and accuracy of transition signals would significantly enhance the coherence of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. There are several spelling errors, such as 'writting', 'ragarding', 'battries', 'ev battiries', and 'stuied', which are distracting. The use of idioms like 'in pink of health' and 'piece of cake' is attempted, but they are not always used in the most natural context. The vocabulary is generally simple and repetitive, and the errors in spelling and word choice occasionally impede the reader's ease of understanding. To improve, focus on accurate spelling and using more precise professional terminology.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('you ask me'), tense inconsistencies ('I find it' instead of 'I have found it'), and punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after commas and incorrect capitalization. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic tense and punctuation errors would be a beneficial next step.
