Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Pinal,

I am writing this regarding the job you have asked me to find it in Canada.

To begin with, I have recently saw a job posting for a Biotechnologist in Agat company which is situated in Missisauga. It is a small owned company runs by some of the family members as well as by some employees. I think it is a great career start for you. I would highly recommend you to apply for that position on their website and wait for the interview call.

Moreover, This role basically involves a sort of work like incubation of agar agar plates, bacteria counts and many more thing mentioned in the job description. I have already sent you the link, please go through it and ask me if you still have any questions regarding it. Although, this job is perfect for you as you are already experienced in that field, you have already done so many works in college as well as in your current work place so i think it would be easier to crack the interview.

Lastly, you can apply for this job through the Agat career website, you can add your resume by adding current address, work details. They will ask you for the some information regarding accommodation too. After filling all this detail you can submit it through online and in case you did not receive any confirmation and a call you can email your resume directly to Hiring Manager.

Best Of Luck and Good Wishes From my side.

Regards,

Shreya Soni

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You introduced the job, described the nature of the work, explained why it is suitable for your friend, and provided clear instructions on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, being informal yet informative. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the explanation of why the friend's background makes them a good candidate. To reach a higher band, ensure that all details are accurate; for example, the description of the company as 'small owned' could be more naturally phrased as 'a small, family-owned company'. Overall, the response is purposeful and fully covers the requirements of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Lastly' to link your paragraphs. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the transition 'Although, this job is perfect' is used incorrectly at the start of a sentence to contrast ideas. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used with greater precision would enhance the flow of your writing and help you achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using industry-specific terms like 'Biotechnologist', 'incubation', and 'resume'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'small owned company' instead of 'family-owned business' and 'many more thing' instead of 'many more things'. Additionally, 'crack the interview' is a bit informal; 'succeed in the interview' would be more appropriate. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, you need to use less common lexical items with more precision and pay closer attention to standard collocations to move into the higher band range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For example, 'I have recently saw' should be 'I have recently seen', and 'runs by some of the family members' should be 'run by some family members'. There are also issues with article usage and pluralization, such as 'the some information'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of verb tenses, particularly the present perfect versus the simple past.
