Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Susan,
I hope you are doing well. It's been so long since we last met. I am writing this letter to let you know that I have found a job vacancy in a local company.
However, the job is in the administration department where your duties will include creating invoices and quotes, following up with clients on a regular basis regarding outstanding payments, and then coordinating with co-workers accordingly. In addition to that, training will be provided on how to process payroll for all the employees which will be beneficial for you for future career opportunities.
You will be the perfect candidate for the job because you have previous foreign experience in the same field. Moreover, you will also learn a new skill such as payroll for employees. You can email the copy of your resume to this email [redacted email] and they will reach back to you with the response.
I hope you will consider my suggestion. I look forward to your response.
Yours truly,
Simran

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly described the job duties, explained why it is a good fit for your friend, and provided instructions on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and helpful persona throughout. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands the nature of the role and the application process. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more detail about the company culture or the specific benefits of the location to further extend your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use transition signals such as 'However,' 'In addition to that,' and 'Moreover' to connect your ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, the use of 'However' at the start of the second paragraph is slightly unnatural, as there is no preceding contrast to justify it. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring they are used in the correct context would enhance the overall flow and help you achieve a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'vacancy,' 'administration department,' and 'outstanding payments' correctly. The language is natural and appropriate for the context. There are no significant errors in word choice that impede communication. To improve, try to incorporate more precise or sophisticated collocations. For example, instead of saying 'found a job vacancy,' you could use 'came across a job opening.' Expanding your vocabulary to include more idiomatic expressions or less common lexical items would help you move into the higher band range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are grammatically accurate, and your punctuation is generally correct. There are a few minor slips, such as 'email the copy of your resume to this email abc@gmail.com,' which could be phrased more naturally as 'email a copy of your resume to abc@gmail.com.' Overall, your grammar does not impede communication, and you show good control over basic and intermediate structures. To improve, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence forms, such as conditional clauses or passive voice, to demonstrate greater flexibility.
