Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sam,

Hey! How have you been? I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to let you know about the part-time job in Canada that you want to do and for which I'll give you some valuable assistance.

From my perspective, Shopper's drug mart would be the best place for you to work at the prescription desk. this involves suggesting medicines to the patients and also it this job requires thorough knowledge of medicines and this would perfectly rely to your field job as you already possess this pharmacy skills.

Moving onto the application procedure, you can simply go to any online browser, then search shoppers drug mart nearby. After that at the end of the page you will see apply for the job. In the final stage you have to fill out the form by providing all your necessary information and in 2 business days you will receive that store owner's reply.

Also, you can contact me anytime if you want more information about the job. Hope you get this job quickly.

With warm wishes,

Keertan Patel.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter covers all three bullet points effectively. You clearly describe the job at the pharmacy, explain why it is suitable given the friend's background, and provide a logical step-by-step guide for the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and helpful persona throughout. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the outset. To reach a higher band, ensure that the opening sentence is more natural; for example, stating 'the job you want to do' sounds slightly unnatural as the friend has not yet applied for it.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moving onto' and 'After that' to guide the reader through the steps. However, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraph is slightly abrupt. Additionally, some sentences are a bit repetitive in structure. Improving the flow between sentences by using a wider variety of linking words or pronouns would enhance the overall coherence. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal/semi-formal letter format.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'valuable assistance', 'prescription desk', and 'application procedure'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'perfectly rely to your field job' (should be 'relate to your field') and 'possess this pharmacy skills' (should be 'these pharmacy skills'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over collocations and grammatical agreement. Expanding your vocabulary to include more idiomatic expressions or precise professional terms would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'it this job requires' (redundant subject) and 'shoppers drug mart' (capitalization errors). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are instances where sentence boundaries could be clearer. While you attempt complex structures, the accuracy is inconsistent. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed without redundant pronouns. The majority of your sentences are understandable, but the frequency of minor errors prevents a higher score.
