Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Kylie,

Hope this letter finds you in radiant health and high spirits. I was thrilled to hear that you are interested to pursue your career in my country. I am writing this letter to provide some insights for a job advertisement I recently read in local newspaper.

The local company named Freshco is looking for candidates for the position of Assistant Accountant. The work mainly focuses on the analysis of datasheets followed by profit and loss of the trade in order to enhance company's growth.

I highly feel that this job is suitable for you are truly dedicated towards your work and have already completed a one year internship program in accounts department after which you have become well aware with the tasks and basic requirements.

You can apply for this position easily via online website www.frescho.in or you can also find their contact number in the same webpage as per your convenience.

I really hope that you would find my suggestion beneficial. Looking forward to meet you soon.

Yours loving friend,

Jagroop Ghuman.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the job at Freshco, explain why it suits your friend by referencing her internship experience, and provide instructions on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and helpful register throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the task requirements. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more detail about the specific nature of the 'Assistant Accountant' role or elaborate on why your friend's skills make her a perfect fit for this particular company culture.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing each requirement, and a polite closing. Each paragraph has a central focus, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'followed by' and 'after which', to link ideas. However, the transition between the job description and the reasons for suitability could be smoother. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words or phrases to connect your sentences more fluidly, as some transitions currently feel a bit mechanical.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, such as 'radiant health', 'pursue your career', and 'beneficial'. There are a few minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'I highly feel' (which is not standard; 'I strongly believe' would be better) and 'analysis of datasheets' (which is slightly unnatural; 'analyzing financial data' is more precise). Additionally, 'well aware with' should be 'well acquainted with' or 'well aware of'. Despite these small errors, your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly and effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While most of your sentences are clear, there are some grammatical inaccuracies. For example, 'interested to pursue' should be 'interested in pursuing', and 'profit and loss of the trade' is slightly awkward. You also have a minor error in 'Looking forward to meet you', which should be 'Looking forward to meeting you'. However, these errors do not impede communication. To improve, focus on mastering gerunds after certain verbs and prepositions, and try to incorporate a few more complex sentence structures to demonstrate greater control.
