Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Rashid,

I hope you are doing well. I received your letter a few months ago where you mentioned that you weren't satisfied with your current job, and you requested me to look for a job in my country. I was searching for a suitable for you ever since, and luckily I have seen an advertisement recently about a vacancy in a reputed company.

I used internet for having more detail information. The company is looking for an engineer with 2-3 years of job experience in the field of Power system planning. It's an assistant engineer post where major part of work is modelling power system and after simulation analyzing the reports. They are offering handsome salary with other incentives. In addition, employee will be entitled for 20 days paid holidays per year.

I believe this job is suitable for you because you have interest in Power system study from our varsity days. You also completed your master's on same topic as far as I can remember. 20 days paid holidays is the cherry on the cake, since you leave abroad. Moreover, company will provide accommodation facility and free transportation during working hours.

You can apply directly to their website or you can mail them your CV and 2 passport size photographs. I would suggest you check their online for more details.

Yours sincerely,

Jamil

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly described the job as an assistant engineer in power system planning, explained why it suits your friend by referencing his academic background, and provided clear instructions on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and helpful persona throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the task requirements, ensuring the reader understands both the nature of the role and the specific reasons for your recommendation. No parts of the task were omitted, and the response is well-focused.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your train of thought easily. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Moreover', and 'as far as I can remember' to link your sentences and paragraphs effectively. While the transition between the job description and the application process is smooth, some of the linking phrases are slightly standard. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the information is presented in a coherent manner that makes the letter easy to read.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for the context, such as 'reputed company', 'simulation', 'incentives', and 'accommodation facility'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'searching for a suitable for you' (should be 'searching for a suitable job') and 'check their online' (should be 'check their website'). However, these errors do not impede communication. You successfully use topic-specific vocabulary related to engineering, which adds precision to your writing. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and ensure that word forms are used correctly in all instances.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I hope you are doing well' and 'I believe this job is suitable for you because you have interest in Power system study'. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'I used internet for having more detail information' (should be 'the internet' and 'detailed information') and 'you leave abroad' (should be 'you live abroad'). Despite these occasional errors, the majority of your sentences are clear and error-free. The punctuation is generally accurate, and your control over sentence structure is sufficient to convey your message without any confusion.
