Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You clearly describe the job at the pharmaceutical company, explain why it suits your friend's qualifications and communication skills, and provide instructions on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and helpful register throughout. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands the context and the specific advice being offered. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more detail about the nature of the company or the specific benefits of the role to further extend your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your train of thought. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'Regarding the application' to transition between ideas. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing is consistently accurate. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal/semi-formal letter, contributing to the overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'opportunity', 'qualifications', and 'beneficial'. However, there are some spelling errors, such as 'pharmacutical' (pharmaceutical) and 'advice' (advise - as a verb), which slightly detract from the quality of the writing. Additionally, some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'looking for a work' (looking for work) and 'give you a suggestions' (give you a suggestion). While these errors do not impede communication, improving your control over word choice and spelling would help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is generally effective. There are some grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'you have a good communication skills' (you have good communication skills) and 'beneficial for you to building' (beneficial for you to build). Punctuation is generally handled well, though there are minor slips. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of gerunds and infinitives. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter, and the grammatical mistakes do not cause confusion for the reader.
