Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Aman,
I hope you're doing well. I am glad to know that you are looking for a job here. I recently heard about an opening at a vacancy for a music teacher at a local school, and immediately thought of you.
This school is looking for someone to teach music lessons, teaching students how to play music instruments, helping them prepare for school performances, and organising music-related activities.
I believe this position would be ideal for you because you have always been passionate about music and have considerable experience playing the guitar and piano. In addition, you are patient and communicate well with young people, which are essential qualities for a good teacher.
To apply, you simply need to visit the school's website and complete online application form. you will also have to upload your CV and a brief cover letter.
I hope this letter helps you.
I am sure you would be excellent candidate for this position.
Best wishes,
Vishal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly described the music teacher vacancy, explained why your friend's skills in guitar and piano make him a suitable candidate, and provided the necessary steps for the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a helpful and encouraging persona throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the task requirements, ensuring the reader understands the nature of the job and the rationale behind your recommendation. No parts of the task were omitted, and the response is fully focused on the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph serves a distinct purpose, moving from the introduction to the job details, the justification, and finally the application instructions. You have used cohesive devices such as 'In addition' and 'To apply' effectively to link your points. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal-informal letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that transitions between sentences are even more fluid, as some sentences feel slightly disconnected, though the overall structure remains clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'passionate about music' and 'essential qualities' are natural and appropriate. However, there are minor issues with word choice, such as 'opening at a vacancy,' which is redundant; 'opening' or 'vacancy' would suffice. Additionally, 'music instruments' is less common than 'musical instruments.' While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating a few more sophisticated collocations or less common lexical items would enhance the quality of your writing and help you achieve a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
Your writing demonstrates a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most of your sentences are clear and grammatically sound. However, there are a few minor errors, such as the missing article in 'complete online application form' (should be 'an online application form') and a capitalization error at the start of the sentence 'you will also have to upload...'. Despite these occasional slips, your control over grammar is generally strong, and these errors do not impede communication. To improve, focus on proofreading for small articles and punctuation consistency.
