Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly describe the job at AJAX Capital, explain why it is suitable based on your friend's previous experience, and provide instructions on how to apply via the online portal. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and supportive register throughout. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific details about the marketing role or the company to make the advice feel more authentic and well-developed. Overall, the task is fully addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'As you are asking' and 'As you might have' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by run-on sentences and a lack of punctuation, such as in the first paragraph where multiple independent clauses are joined without proper stops. Improving the use of transition words and varying sentence structure would help the progression of ideas feel more natural and less mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'assist', 'marketing management', and 'online portal'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'shifting here' instead of 'moving here', and 'back nation' which is not standard English. Additionally, there are minor errors in word formation and phrasing that slightly limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and idiomatic expressions suitable for informal correspondence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding punctuation and sentence boundaries. Many sentences are 'run-on' (e.g., the first paragraph), and there is inconsistent use of capitalization (e.g., 'i' instead of 'I'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency. Focusing on basic sentence punctuation and subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your score.
