You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear ................. ,

Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Aman,

Hope you are enjoying your weekend.

I am writing this letter as a revert to the question that you asked me around a month ago regarding a vacancy at a hotel.

I just saw a post on Indeed that Hotel Inn is hiring for many positions currently, including a few housekeeping supervisor. Then I quickly thought of you because you have your diploma in hotel management and are currently working as a staff member. I believe this would be a great opportunity for you to showcase your leadership skills and grow in your field of interest.

In the job description, they mentioned some conditions, such as it is full-time work and will involve good communication skills and problem-solving skills. Along with that, it would be about scheduling housekeeping members for different shifts, and it will require your nighttime availability as well.

Good news is you do not need to apply it in-person, you can simply visit their website www.hotelinn.calgary.ca and apply under careers section or call them and provide your details.

I wish you luck and really hope you get this job.

With love,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly described the job at Hotel Inn, explained why your friend's background in hotel management makes them a suitable candidate, and provided clear instructions on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. To improve, you could provide a bit more detail on the 'nighttime availability' requirement to show how your friend might manage that, which would further develop your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use some cohesive devices like 'Along with that' and 'In the job description', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal-informal letter. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the flow between sentences feels more natural and less like a list of points.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'vacancy', 'leadership skills', and 'full-time work' correctly. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'revert to the question' (which is not standard English in this context) and 'apply it in-person' (should be 'apply in person'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary from being considered sophisticated. Focusing on more natural collocations and avoiding 'business-speak' in a personal letter will help improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'you have your diploma' (should be 'you have a diploma') and 'including a few housekeeping supervisor' (should be 'supervisors'). Additionally, 'apply it in-person' is grammatically awkward. While these errors are noticeable, they do not cause confusion. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and pluralization. Incorporating more varied complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or conditional sentences, would also strengthen your performance.
