Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Rajan,
I hope you are doing well. I remember we met last year and enjoyed each and every moment with you, and time flew by when I was with you.
First, I heard about a job at a local company, and your name immediately came to mind. It's an accountant job in the finance sector. You did your MBA recently; moreover, you have experience in this field. Secondly, you want to go into this sector, as you told me.
Furthermore, the company offers an annual base salary with dental and vision benefits. They will provide you stat holidays and a holiday trip package. You could apply for this job on their website. The company name is Sarah Mobile Enterprise. You could email "[redacted email]".
Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope you will apply for this job and get a positive outcome. I hope we will meet soon.
Best regards,
Sajan Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly identify the job as an accountant, explain why it is suitable based on the friend's MBA and experience, and provide instructions on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To reach a higher band, you could expand on the 'what sort of work it involves' section; currently, it is limited to the job title and sector. Providing a brief description of daily responsibilities would make the response more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First', 'Furthermore', and 'Secondly' to guide the reader. While these are effective, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is slightly abrupt. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'finance sector', 'annual base salary', and 'consideration'. However, the vocabulary remains somewhat basic and repetitive. For instance, the phrase 'you could' is used three times in the final paragraph. To improve, try to incorporate more varied collocations and avoid repeating the same sentence structures or simple verbs. The word choice is generally accurate and does not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some minor grammatical issues, such as 'They will provide you stat holidays', which should be 'provide you with stat holidays'. Additionally, 'I hope we will meet soon' is grammatically correct but could be more naturally phrased as 'I look forward to seeing you soon'. Most sentences are error-free, and the punctuation is generally accurate, which ensures that the meaning is always clear to the reader.
