Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly describe the job as a quality control specialist at TAMCO, explain why your friend is suitable due to your shared mechanical engineering background and his HVAC training, and provide instructions on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the 'why' by adding more personal detail about why you think he would enjoy the company culture or the specific location, which would make the letter feel more natural and fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on one of the required points, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use some cohesive devices like 'In addition,' 'Therefore,' and 'Moreover' to link your sentences. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the flow between sentences is smoother, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between the engineering degree and the job eligibility could be more fluidly integrated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using industry-specific terms like 'quality control specialist,' 'ISO 9000,' and 'HVAC.' There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'verify the the quality' (repetition) and 'put you step ahead' (missing article 'a'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Focusing on more natural collocations and avoiding minor slips will help elevate your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'recently, there is an opening' (tense inconsistency), 'accordance to' (should be 'in accordance with'), and 'reach you out at anytime' (incorrect phrasal verb usage). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. You should pay closer attention to articles, prepositions, and verb tenses to ensure greater accuracy in your writing.
