Dear ................. ,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Kevin,
I hope you are doing great my friend, it's been a long time since we haven't hung-out the way we used to do while studying at the University of Portsmouth. Well, I am delighted to know that you are seeking an opportunity to work full-time in Canada. I have recently discovered from a friend of mine about a opening position of Data Analyst at CIBC bank in Toronto city.
And, I feel that you would be a perfect candidate for them to hire Because, you have not only a Master degree in data science but also gained relevant work experience. Moreover, having Data Visualization certificate will boost your resume to clear the ATS system in order to get selected for an interview.
Now you must be thinking of how to apply, specifically in banking companies such as CIBC ,but don't worry unlike other tech companies they have created their own job portal where you will have to create an applicant account to complete your application with submitting all the transcripts.
Again, I can't wait any more to meet you in-person and to make plans to explore the cities of Canada with you all over again. Also, please let me know if you any need further help during filling up the application form.
Your Friend,
Kishan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the Data Analyst position at CIBC, explain why your friend's background in data science and his certification make him a strong candidate, and provide clear instructions on how to apply via the company's job portal. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and supportive register throughout. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. You have fully satisfied the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs covering each requirement, and a warm closing. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Now', and 'Again' to transition between ideas. However, the flow could be slightly improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences more fluidly. For instance, some sentences feel a bit disjointed. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow, and the structure is appropriate for a semi-formal/informal letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary relevant to the topic, such as 'Data Analyst', 'ATS system', 'applicant account', and 'transcripts'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'a opening position' (should be 'an opening position') and 'filling up the application form' (more naturally 'filling out'). While you successfully convey your message, the vocabulary is generally functional rather than sophisticated. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and idiomatic expressions that sound natural in a friendly letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'since we haven't hung-out' (should be 'since we hung out'), 'Master degree' (should be 'Master's degree'), and 'if you any need further help' (should be 'if you need any further help'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will help improve your accuracy significantly.
