Dear ................. ,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Hiren,
First of all, it is being long time we had a chat, I hope everything is fine at your end. I am writing this letter to inform you about a job opportunity that came up online just 2 days ago, and I just got to know about that from my cousin. I think it is perfect match for you. The job title is office administrative assistance which similar to the course "Business Management" we did last year together from Conestoga college. It will include handling the business opertions such as booking clients, confirming customer's appoinments, and keep the track of financial transcations of the company. Thus, I will be sending you a link of the company's careers page (https://www.skinclinic.com/careers) where you can find "Job Post Id = 5489" with the similar title I mentioned earlier in the email.
I wish you best of luck for getting an interview.
Thank you,
Kamil Ghori.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The candidate successfully covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. First, the letter describes the job and the sort of work it involves, specifically mentioning office administrative assistance, handling business operations, booking clients, confirming appointments, and keeping track of financial transactions. Second, it explains why the job is suitable for the friend, noting the connection to the Business Management course they took together at Conestoga College. Third, it provides instructions on how to apply by directing the friend to a specific company careers page URL and a Job Post ID. The tone is appropriately informal and friendly throughout, matching the requirements of a General Training letter to an acquaintance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter maintains a clear overall progression and logical organisation. The writer starts with friendly greetings and moves smoothly into the purpose of the letter, introducing the job details, suitability, and application method in a logical sequence. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'First of all', 'Thus', and 'where you can find', though the paragraphing is quite dense. The entire body of the letter is contained within one large paragraph, which lacks the optimal visual and logical partitioning typically expected at higher bands. Nevertheless, referencing and logical flow remain clear throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The candidate demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suited to the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items such as 'administrative assistance', 'business operations', and 'financial transactions'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'it is being long time' instead of 'it has been a long time', 'perfect match' missing the article 'a', and 'keep the track' instead of 'keep track'. Despite these inaccuracies, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended message clearly without impeding communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses ('that came up online just 2 days ago') and conditional-like explanations. However, the text contains several grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. For example, 'it is being long time we had a chat' contains tense and structural errors, and 'appointment' is misspelled as 'appoinments'. Punctuation is also slightly loose with run-on clauses linked by commas rather than proper conjunctions or full stops. The errors do not severely impede communication, but they restrict the score to a solid Band 6 level.
