Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Darshan,
I hope you doing great, i have recieved you letter regarding the work you are looking for and fortunately i have a perfect role for you in a known company.
A company named TESCO, which has a great chain of retail stores across the UK is hiring a supervisor for one of theirs store in maidenhead. The job requires daily task to be completed by you like putting permotional stuff on the shelves and keep the store organised by telling the employees working under your supervision.
I am suggesting this job for you beacuse i know that you have studied management in the university and have a sutiable degree with several years of experience in retail and that will make this job really easy for you to handle.
Let me tell you how you can apply this job, so you just have to go to their website named www.tescocarriers.uk and after that simply select role, area and position, it will take you to the role of supervisor which is opened yesterday. After that, simply apply the job and you will get the interview call in few days.
I know you will get this job and when you do just give me a call and tell where are we going to celebrate. Till then take care of yourself.
Thanks,
Amrik

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all three bullet points of the task effectively. You successfully introduced your friend Darshan to the job at TESCO involving supervisor duties like placing promotional items and organising the store. You clearly explained why he is suitable by referencing his management degree and retail experience. Furthermore, you outlined how to apply through their website. The tone is appropriately semi-formal to friendly throughout the letter, fulfilling the communicative purpose well. Ideas are extended with relevant details, demonstrating a clear understanding of the prompt requirements. Overall, this meets the criteria for a Band 7.0 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter exhibits a clear logical organisation with a recognizable beginning, middle, and end. Each paragraph serves a distinct purpose corresponding to the bullet points in the prompt. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes weak or run-on in nature, such as joining multiple distinct clauses with commas rather than full stops or appropriate conjunctions (e.g., 'I hope you doing great, i have recieved you letter...'). Referencing is generally clear, but the overall flow could be improved with more varied cohesive markers, placing this firmly at a Band 6.5 or 6.0 level.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary range is adequate for the task, successfully attempting less common items related to retail and employment like 'supervisor', 'promotional', and 'retail stores'. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors that detract from precision, such as 'recieved', 'theirs', 'permotional', 'beacuse', and 'sutiable'. Furthermore, phrases like 'apply this job' instead of 'apply for this job' show limitations in collocation. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the lexical score from reaching the higher bands, aligning best with a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text. Examples include missing auxiliary verbs in 'I hope you doing great', lowercase 'i', and run-on sentences joined solely by commas. While you attempt complex structures, control over them is inconsistent, leading to frequent minor errors. Despite this, the meaning remains clear throughout, making this a solid Band 6.0 performance.
