You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear ................. ,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Darshak,

I hope all is well.

I am writing this letter to inform you about the job posting I have come across recently while browsing the internet.

I am aware about the fact that you recently moved to my home country, and struggling to find a job. We know each other since we were studying abroad and sharing the living area to save some money.

Coming back to the job, the position is open for a data analytic, and good news is it is permanent full time position. The recrutiers want someone who is highly skillfull and have a prior experience working in the same sector or field. I know you since our college days, and I am aware about the fact that you have all the skills which are mentioned in the posting.

I precisely think you would nail the interview if you are called for it because you know the job, and you have performed all these duties prior to it.

In order to apply for the job, all you need to do is to go on their online website, click on the job posting tab, and upload your recent resume. Once they feel you are the right candidate, they will call you for an interview.

I hope this letter will end your job hunt, and you may get hired in this company for this position.

Thank you and have a good luck ahead.

Your Sincerely,

Shivam Desai

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all bullet points required by the prompt. You begin by addressing your friend, Darshak, and immediately introduce the job opportunity you found. You clearly explain the nature of the work, noting that the position is for a 'data analytic' on a permanent full-time basis, which directly covers the first bullet point. Next, you explain why the job is suitable for him by referencing his past experience and shared college history, fulfilling the second requirement. Finally, you provide clear instructions on how to apply, advising him to visit the company's online website, find the job posting tab, and upload his resume, thus satisfying the third bullet point. The tone is appropriately friendly and conversational, and the purpose of the letter is fully achieved.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter exhibits a clear logical progression from the initial greeting to the announcement of the job, the explanation of suitability, the application process, and the closing remarks. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as the job details and the application instructions. Cohesive devices are generally handled well, with transitions like 'Coming back to the job' and 'In order to apply for the job' guiding the reader smoothly through the text. However, some referencing could be slightly tighter, as seen in minor awkwardness with conjunctions and relative clauses, but overall organisation remains coherent and easy to follow throughout.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate and generally appropriate for a semi-formal/informal letter to a friend, featuring relevant terms such as 'job posting', 'recruiters', 'resume', and 'permanent full time position'. However, there are some noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward collocations, such as 'data analytic' instead of 'data analyst', and the repeated phrase 'aware about the fact that' rather than 'aware that'. While you attempt some less common vocabulary, these minor word-choice and collocation errors prevent the lexical score from reaching the higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response displays a reasonable mix of simple and complex sentence forms. You demonstrate control over standard structures, and many sentences are accurate, such as 'I hope this letter will end your job hunt'. However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings present, including 'and struggling to find a job' (missing subject/auxiliary verb), 'We know each other since' (incorrect tense usage; should be 'have known'), and 'have a prior experience' (uncountable noun error). Additionally, the sign-off 'Your Sincerely' contains a minor grammatical slip. Despite these errors, communication is never impeded.
