Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Minna,
I hope you are doing splendidly. I am writing this to let you know about an interesting job opening in my locality for the position of Physiotherapist. The Multi-speciality hospital of Coimbatore is hiring for a female physiotherapist to their new rehabilitation unit, which is going to open in the hospital site on November 2026. The role involves the supervison of the rehabilitation unit as well as diagnosing and treating the patient
In the advertisment, I noticed that they are looking for a female Physiotherpist who speeks Tamil as well as somebody who is certified in Female Pelvic floor Physiotherapy. As I know that you did your certification in Pelvic floor Physiotherapy recently, it will be a great learning platform for you to explore your practical knowledge to help the patients.
If you are interested, you can send your resume to [redacted email] or you can visit their website for job application. Moreover, you can mail your resume to their mailing address which is mentioned in their website. Please feel free to contact me if you need any assistance
I can't wait to hearing from you

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
The response effectively covers all bullet points required by the prompt. You introduce a job opening for a physiotherapist at a Multi-speciality hospital in Coimbatore, detailing its rehabilitation focus and start date. You clearly explain why Minna is a suitable candidate by highlighting her recent certification in Pelvic floor Physiotherapy and her ability to speak Tamil. Finally, you provide clear application methods, including an email address and website options. The tone is appropriately friendly and conversational for a letter to an acquaintance made while studying abroad. All parts of the task are fully addressed, and your ideas are well-developed with relevant details, corresponding well to the requirements for a Band 8 level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
Your letter is logically organised with a clear overarching progression. Ideas are grouped sensibly into paragraphs: the opening and job description in the first paragraph, the rationale for suitability in the second, and the application instructions in the third, followed by an appropriate sign-off. You use cohesive devices adequately, such as 'Moreover' and conditional structures like 'If you are interested', to link your ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately and sufficiently to guide the reader through the different aspects of the letter. The structure supports smooth reading, although slightly more variety in cohesive links could enhance the flow further. Overall, this demonstrates clear logical organisation consistent with a Band 7 performance.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary with some less common items and specific terminology related to the profession, such as 'Physiotherapist', 'rehabilitation unit', 'diagnosis', and 'Pelvic floor Physiotherapy'. There are a few spelling and word-choice inaccuracies, such as 'supervison' (supervision), 'advertisment' (advertisement), 'Physiotherpist' (Physiotherapist), and 'speeks' (speaks). However, these minor slips do not impede communication, and your overall lexical control is adequate for the task. You successfully attempt subject-specific vocabulary, which allows for precision in describing the job role and requirements, fitting comfortably into a Band 6 score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses like 'As I know that you did your certification...' and conditional structures like 'If you are interested, you can send...'. There are some grammatical and mechanical errors present, notably spelling mistakes ('speeks', 'advertisment', 'supervison'), a missing period at the end of the first paragraph, and a minor prepositional error in 'hiring for a female physiotherapist to their new rehabilitation unit' (hiring a female physiotherapist for). Additionally, the closing sentence contains a minor grammatical slip: 'I can't wait to hearing from you' should be 'I can't wait to hear from you'. Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, reflecting a Band 6 level of grammatical range and accuracy.
