Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The student covers all three bullet points required in the prompt: telling the friend about the job (PSW/Childcare support worker), explaining why it is suitable based on their physiotherapy degree, and mentioning how to apply. However, there is some confusion in the third bullet point regarding immigration processes, mixing up a local company job application with Express Entry and state nomination. Furthermore, the length requirement has not been met, as the response contains 148 words, falling just short of the 150-word minimum. This minor negative impact on task completion, combined with the slightly confused details regarding the job application process, places this response at Band 5.5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter uses basic paragraphing, though the organisation is somewhat disjointed. Sentences like 'There is a extreme shortage of these worker as mojority of the populations are become old age' introduce ideas abruptly without smooth transitions. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes repetitive. For instance, the transition between discussing the degree and explaining the application process lacks a clear logical bridge. Paragraph breaks are used, but the overall progression of ideas feels a bit choppy and lacks the flexibility and control expected at higher bands. Overall, the structure is coherent enough to be followed, aligning with a Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, though it is minimally adequate to convey the core message about healthcare work and qualifications. Words and phrases like 'extreme demand', 'bachelors degree', and 'experience' are utilized, but there are noticeable word choice and collocation issues, such as 'majority of the populations are become old age' and 'dealing a patient'. Spelling errors such as 'mojority' and 'recieve' further detract from the lexical score. While the writer attempts some topic-specific vocabulary related to healthcare, inaccuracies and basic errors restrict the score to Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('majority of the populations are become'), article omissions ('is extreme demand'), and preposition errors ('dealing a patient'). Punctuation and sentence boundaries are sometimes handled awkwardly, such as sentence fragments ('As you already hold a bachelors degree in physiotheraphy.'). These frequent errors can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, placing this performance firmly in the Band 5.0 category.
