Student answer (Band 4.5)
Dear Rohit,
I hope you are doing well. Welcome to new city. I am feeling so glad hearing that you finally moved to a new place. I have been there for couple of years and there are so many well-known companies that hire people throughout the year.
I know you are so hard-working and welling to learn, This makes you a good fit for the company. You are good at numbers and you completed your masters in accountant helps you to stand in a queue. I believe you can easily crack interview and can get a good job.
You can apply job through indeed, by visiting in-person and by their website.
Best of luck and hopefully you get a good response. If you need any another help feel free to contact.
Love,
Prabhjot Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response only partially addresses the task requirements and suffers from a significant length penalty, as the text contains only 134 words, falling short of the 150-word minimum. While the letter attempts to cover the required bullet points, the information provided is limited and under-developed. For instance, the mention of the job and what it involves is extremely brief ('You are good at numbers and you completed your masters in accountant helps you to stand in a queue'), lacking specific details about the company or the actual responsibilities. Similarly, the explanation of how to apply is overly simplistic ('You can apply job through indeed, by visiting in-person and by their website'). To reach a higher level, all parts of the prompt need to be extended with relevant details, clear examples, and fully fleshed-out ideas, while also meeting the word count requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some organisation present in the letter, such as the standard greeting and sign-off, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Ideas are grouped into brief paragraphs, but the logical links between sentences are frequently weak or repetitive. For example, the transition between welcoming the friend and introducing the job is abrupt, moving straight from city life to job hunting without smooth cohesive ties. Furthermore, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'I have been there for couple of years', where the pronoun reference is ambiguous. Cohesive devices are used minimally and sometimes inaccurately. To improve, the writer should ensure that ideas flow logically from one to the next using a wider range of appropriate cohesive devices and clear paragraphing that guides the reader naturally through the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary and task-related terms, such as 'well-known companies' and 'hard-working', but there are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and collocation that cause some difficulty for the reader. For instance, 'welling to learn' (willing), 'masters in accountant' (master's in accounting), and 'apply job' (apply for a job) demonstrate issues with word formation and preposition usage. Additionally, spelling and phrasing choices remain basic throughout the letter. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, use less common vocabulary with greater precision, and eliminate word-choice errors by paying closer attention to collocations and parts of speech.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few faulty attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and article usage that can cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include missing articles ('Welcome to new city'), incorrect verb forms and agreement ('hearing that you finally moved', 'completed your masters in accountant helps you'), and missing prepositions. Sentences featuring clauses often break down grammatically rather than remaining error-free. To move up to the next band, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence forms with good control, significantly reduce the frequency of basic grammatical errors, and ensure accurate punctuation and subject-verb agreement throughout the writing.
