Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Alex,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to inform you about a job opportunity available in my town.
There is an opening for a caregiver position by Shannex. It does involve taking care of an elderly man with physical disability, in his house. You will be responsible to provide activities of daily living support including, bathing, dressing, oral and eye care and feeding assistance.
I think this job is perfect for you as your medical background is relevant for this position. Also, as this job is in a home-care setting, it would be very relaxing for you beacuse there is not much pressure involved in home care jobs.
If you are interested to apply for this position, you can email me your updated resume. I will hand-over it to the Human Resources department or you can apply for this job online as it is listed on thier website.
Waiting to hear back from you. Wish you all the best,
Your friend,
Iqbal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, earning a solid score in this category. You clearly told your friend about the caregiver job and what it involves, such as 'taking care of an elderly man with physical disability' and providing 'activities of daily living support'. You also adequately explained why it suits him due to his 'medical background' and the relaxing home-care setting. Finally, the application process is thoroughly explained through emailing a resume or applying online. All requirements are fully covered with relevant ideas, showing clear extension and support throughout the letter, although a touch more specific detail about the town or company would push this criterion even further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The letter displays a clear logical organization and progression from the opening greeting to the closing sign-off. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, such as introducing the job, explaining its suitability, and detailing the application steps. Cohesive devices like 'Also', 'If you are interested', and referencing pronouns are used effectively to guide the reader through the text. While the overall flow is coherent and natural, slightly more variety in transitional phrasing would elevate the structure to match the highest standards.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items like 'caregiver position', 'home-care setting', and 'Human Resources department'. Word choices are generally clear and appropriate, though there are occasional minor spelling and word-form errors, such as 'beacuse' instead of 'because', 'hand-over it' instead of 'hand it over', and 'thier' instead of 'their'. These errors do not impede communication, but eliminating them and incorporating a wider selection of precise collocation would enhance your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The writing contains a comfortable mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a decent grasp of sentence structures. You successfully use clauses and conjunctions, such as 'I am writing this letter to inform you about...' and 'If you are interested to apply for this position...'. However, there are a few grammatical inaccuracies, including 'interested to apply' (should be 'interested in applying') and prepositional or punctuation slips. These errors rarely impede communication and represent a good level of control, though increasing the proportion of error-free complex sentences will help you progress further.
