Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Rohan,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to answer about your enquiry about the job in my home country. Today morning I saw a posting at my workplace bulletin board regarding the post of them hiring a distribution coordinator. I think this job is suitable for you because we both studied business supply chain and management. Moving further, to apply for this job you can email me your resume and I will forward it to my HR or you can send it directly to her email [redacted email]. I really look forward to work with you because as you can recall we were best suited when we were working in team.
I hope to see you soon.
Yours sincerely,
ABC

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You have addressed all parts of the prompt by telling your friend about the distribution coordinator job, explaining why it suits him due to your shared academic background, and providing application methods. However, the response only contains 125 words, failing to meet the minimum requirement of 150 words. Furthermore, some bullet points are underdeveloped; for instance, the explanation of the job duties is quite brief and lacks specific details about day-to-day responsibilities. To reach a higher level, you must expand your points more fully to satisfy the word count and provide richer descriptions of the role and the application procedure.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical structure appropriate for a friendly correspondence, moving smoothly from the opening greeting to the job details and concluding with your desire to work together. You use appropriate referencing and clear paragraphing overall. However, some cohesive devices feel slightly mechanical or awkward, such as the transition phrase 'Moving further,' which does not fit naturally in this context. To improve cohesion further and achieve a higher score, you should ensure that all linking words and transitional phrases flow naturally and connect your ideas with greater flexibility and precision.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully incorporating topic-specific terms such as 'distribution coordinator' and 'supply chain and management.' There are a few word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as writing 'answer about your enquiry' instead of 'reply to your inquiry' and 'Today morning' instead of 'This morning,' but these do not impede communication. You also make a minor prepositional error with 'look forward to work' instead of 'looking forward to working.' To move up to a higher band, you should attempt a wider variety of less common lexical items with greater precision and avoid natural phrasing errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over basic structures and successfully incorporating relative clauses and compound sentences. There are some grammatical and punctuation errors present, such as missing articles ('the workplace bulletin board') and slight awkwardness in phrasing, but these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout. To achieve a higher band, you need to incorporate a wider variety of complex structures with frequent error-free sentences, while polishing your control over prepositions, articles, and verb complementation patterns.
