Dear ................. ,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Bharath,
I hope you are doing well. Its been long time we have not seen each other. I miss those good old masters days in USA. I have just gone through the mail about the job here back in India. I would be glad to help you out man. So, I know a company where my friend works as a software engineer. We just recently met at a family event. And I remember he was saying that their company has some new openings for few roles, and I am pretty sure it matches your profile for the job.
Basically the position is for the digital marketing side as an Programmatic and SSP operational side. And your previous expirience was in an ad-tech company. You must know what exactly the job would be. It involves to run ad campaigns, make budget planning, prepare reports etc. Since you got experience in this field already, I think this job would be suitable for you. If you are interested, just let me know. I'll hook you up with my friend, so that he can refer you and you can further proceed.
I hope it was helpful for you.
Best regards,
Nousheer.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You successfully addressed all parts of the letter prompt by telling your friend about the digital marketing position and its duties, explaining why his ad-tech background makes him suitable, and outlining how to apply through your friend's referral. However, some aspects are more fully developed than others. For instance, while you mentioned the duties broadly ('run ad campaigns, make budget planning'), the explanation of the job role and how to proceed could have been extended with more vivid detail and clarity to fully satisfy higher band requirements. Your tone is appropriately informal and friendly throughout, fitting the general letter format well.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical progression from greeting and catching up to discussing the job opportunity and explaining the application steps. You make use of cohesive devices like 'Since you got experience in this field already' and 'If you are interested', though cohesion is at times a bit mechanical. Furthermore, paragraphing is somewhat inconsistent, as the second paragraph is quite lengthy and packs multiple distinct ideas together—such as the company description, the job role, and the application process—which could have been broken down into smaller, more digestible paragraphs for better visual and logical flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrated an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating industry-specific terms like 'software engineer', 'ad-tech company', and 'ad campaigns'. You also attempted less common phrasing, though this led to some word-choice and word-form inaccuracies, such as writing 'an Programmatic' instead of 'a Programmatic' and spelling 'expirience' instead of 'experience'. These minor slips do not impede communication, but eliminating them and utilizing a slightly wider variety of precise verbs and adjectives would elevate your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
Your writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional structures ('If you are interested, just let me know') and causal clauses ('Since you got experience in this field already...'). There are some errors in grammar and punctuation present throughout the text, including tense choice ('Its been long time we have not seen each other' instead of 'It has been a long time since we saw each other'), article usage ('as an Programmatic'), and prepositional patterns. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and do not obscure your intended meaning.
