Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Emily,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to inform you that i find a suitable job for you at the clinic.

I think you have completed your course of Physiotherapy. I am excited. I would like to suggest you work at the clinic where i works, because we need junior physiotherapist.

I think it will suitable for you because you gain a plenty of knowledge and experience. Besides that, you have an opportunity for treating critical cases such as Neurological Rehabilitation. I believe you will gain confidence and also help you improve communication skills. Furthermore, I will be there and i can assist you with any confusion.

I think it will be good if you will appear in a person. Fisrtly, I can give you contact number, you can call us anytime or if you want me to refer you. I can give reference, as they also asked me about my friend or any junior needs job.

I hope you will understand me. I am forward looking for your response.

Yours lovingly,

Rajandeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You successfully address all parts of the prompt by telling your friend about the job at the clinic, explaining why it is suitable because of the physiotherapy experience she will gain, and outlining how to apply. Your tone is appropriate for writing to a friend. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the explanation of the job and its duties is somewhat brief and could be expanded to give Emily a clearer picture of her day-to-day responsibilities. Similarly, the application instructions are a bit confusing regarding whether she should call or appear in person. To move to a higher level, you need to extend all your main points with more specific supporting details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear beginning and ending, and you use paragraphing to separate different topics, such as the job details in the second paragraph and the application steps in the fourth. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. You rely heavily on repetitive transitional phrases like 'I think' at the beginning of consecutive sentences, which makes the flow less natural. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as when you write 'where i works' and switch back and forth in your explanations. To improve, you should vary your cohesive devices and ensure that referencing between sentences guides the reader smoothly from one point to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully using topic-specific terms like 'Physiotherapy', 'Neurological Rehabilitation', and 'communication skills'. You attempt less common vocabulary, but there are some noticeable word-choice and word-form errors that detract from precision, such as writing 'i find' instead of 'I have found' or 'It will suitable' instead of 'It will be suitable'. There are also minor spelling and capitalisation slips, such as 'Fisrtly'. These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent your lexical score from rising. To achieve a higher band, focus on accurate word forms, natural collocations, and checking your spelling before finalising.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional clauses and relative clauses to convey your ideas. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('where i works', 'they also asked'), missing auxiliary verbs ('i find a suitable job'), and pronoun casing ('i'). While these errors rarely impede communication, they persist throughout the text and demonstrate limited control over complex structures. To reach a higher standard, you need to produce a greater proportion of error-free sentences, pay closer attention to verb tenses, and ensure correct capitalization of the pronoun 'I' throughout your writing.
