Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You successfully cover all three bullet points required in the prompt. You mention the job in Madhya Pradesh involving environmental work, explain why it suits Tom due to his engineering background and previous experience controlling air pollution in China, and briefly explain how to apply. However, some ideas are under-developed. For instance, the description of what the job involves is quite brief and vague, mentioning only to 'clean and work on somg a air pollution.' To move to a higher level, you need to extend and fully develop your ideas with more specific details about the daily duties and requirements of the role.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement, and the reader can easily follow the sequence of ideas from greeting to the closing sign-off. You use basic paragraphing to separate your points, such as mentioning the meeting in Oslo, the job details, and the application steps. However, cohesion is at times mechanical and referencing is not always clear, as seen in the slightly abrupt transitions between sentences and ideas, such as moving from the location in India straight into the job description without a smooth connective phrase. Improving the logical flow between sentences and using a wider range of cohesive devices would enhance the structure of your writing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You demonstrate an adequate vocabulary range for the task and attempt some less common items such as 'environmental_ist' and 'credentials'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'somg' instead of 'smog', 'direcly' instead of 'directly', and phrasing like 'shared about the kind of work you are looking' rather than 'looking for'. Additionally, words are occasionally misused in terms of collocation and word form. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they restrict your score because they reveal limited precision and control over less common lexical items.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as conditional or dependent clauses like 'as you have a done a engineering'. There are noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation, including articles ('a engineering' instead of 'an engineering', 'the china government' instead of 'the Chinese government'), prepositions, and verb tenses ('the job involve to clean' instead of 'involves cleaning'). Punctuation is also weak in places, with comma splices linking independent clauses that should be separated or joined more accurately. While these errors rarely completely impede communication, their frequency prevents you from achieving a higher score.
