Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Prabh,
I hope you are doing well. It was great to hear from you after such a long time. I am glad that you are considering working in my country.
I recently came across a job advertisement for the position of Account Manager in a well-known company in my local area. The role mainly invloves managing client accounts, handling financial transactions, preparing reports and maintaing strong relationships with customers.
I think this job would be highly suitable for you because you have worked for the similar position earlier and have experience to manage all tasks. In addition, your critical thinking, decision making ability and strong communication style would give you an edge over other candidates.
To apply for this job, you have to visit company's official website and fill an application form. Don't forget to attach your CV along with a brief cover letter, which highlights your experience.
I hope this job will work for you.
Warm wishes,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task in a natural semi-formal tone appropriate for a friend. The writer clearly describes the Account Manager role and its duties, explains why the friend's background makes them suitable for the position, and outlines the application steps. Ideas are extended and supported well, such as mentioning the friend's critical thinking and communication skills. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise or skim the surface in places, such as describing the duties with standard list-like phrases, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Overall, the purpose of the letter is fully achieved with a clear and consistent focus.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The letter demonstrates clear logical organization and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct and appropriate focus: greeting and opening, describing the job, explaining suitability, and explaining the application process. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition' and 'To apply for this job' are used effectively to guide the reader, although referencing is occasionally straightforward. Paragraphing is managed sufficiently and appropriately, contributing to an overall coherent and easy-to-read structure that meets the requirements for this band level.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The student uses a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision, incorporating less common items like 'Account Manager', 'financial transactions', and 'cover letter' with general awareness of style and collocation. However, there are a few noticeable spelling errors ('invloves' instead of involves, 'maintaing' instead of maintaining) and a minor collocation slip ('worked for the similar position earlier' instead of 'worked in a similar position'). These occasional inaccuracies in spelling and word choice keep the score at the present level, though communication is never impeded.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
The writing features a good mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating good control of grammar and punctuation overall. Frequent error-free sentences are present, such as conditional and relative clause structures like 'a brief cover letter, which highlights your experience.' Control of verb forms and tenses is generally solid, although a few minor mechanical or article slips persist, such as omitting the article before company's website ('to visit company's official website'). These minor errors do not interfere with understanding and showcase a solid command of sentence structures.
