Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Emma,
I'm glad to hear from you that you are hunting for a job in my country and I can help you in that.
I heard about an employment opportunity in a local organization, they are looking for an English speaking customer care advisor for digital services. You will need to answer customer calls and satisfy their needs.
I still remember you have always gained attention for your communication skills and outshined whenever you presented yourself among a group. I think your communication skills will make you fit perfectly for this role. Plus, your good command in technical devices will be beneficial in operating the system.
You can directly apply for this job through company's online website or either by sending your resume via an email to HR. If you do not receive any response within 5 days you can email them and ask about the status of your application.
I hope you find this information useful. Do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further details.
All the best,
Suman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, covering the three bullet points clearly and appropriately for a general training letter. You tell your friend about the customer care role, explain why her communication skills make her suitable, and outline the application process. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout, adopting an appropriate informal yet informative tone. While the ideas are relevant and generally well-extended, some points, such as the specific duties of the digital services role, could have been elaborated slightly further to fully reach a higher band. Overall, the communication is effective and directly answers the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
There is a clear logical organization and progression throughout the letter. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, transitioning smoothly from the greeting and purpose, to the job description, suitability, application instructions, and closing. You use cohesive devices adequately, such as 'Plus' and 'If you do not receive', ensuring the text flows well. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately. To reach the highest band, cohesive devices could be deployed with even greater flexibility and variety, and referencing could be slightly more seamless between sentences, but the current structure maintains a very coherent and easy-to-follow flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating a sufficient range with some attempts at less common items like 'employment opportunity', 'customer care advisor', and 'resume'. However, there are a few minor lexical inaccuracies and slightly unnatural phrasings, such as 'hunting for a job' instead of 'looking for a job' or 'job hunting', and 'through company's online website' which misses an article. Spelling is generally correct and communication is never impeded, but refining collocations and word choices would elevate the lexical range to the next level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, with good control over overall punctuation and sentence construction. There are some error-free sentences, such as 'I hope you find this information useful.' However, a few minor grammatical errors persist, such as 'your good command in technical devices' (preposition error, should be 'command of') and 'an email' instead of 'email'. These errors are infrequent and rarely impede communication, reflecting a solid command of basic structures while attempting some complexity, though consistent accuracy in complex patterns is still developing.
