Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Emma,
It's wonderful to hear from you that you are interested to work in my country and looking for a job. I'll more than happy to share my input.
I've heard about an employment opportunity in a local organization named Dynasty Group. They are looking for an English-speaking candidate to handle their overseas customers. This will include reverting back emails and answering phone calls.
I remember you've always outshone while presenting yourself and achieved good merits in English language during our academic course. Your proficiency in the language makes you fit perfectly for this role. Plus, the computer skills we have learned during our studies will help you operate the system effectively.
You can either apply to this job via the company's online portal or email your resume to the HR given on the website. You can track the progress of your application on the same portal.
I hope you find this information useful. Do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further assistance.
All the Best,
Suman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task in a natural, friendly tone suited to a semi-formal letter. You clearly introduce the job at Dynasty Group involving customer service duties such as handling overseas clients. You also explain why Emma is a strong candidate, mentioning her presentation skills and English proficiency, and you outline the application process clearly through online portals and email. All bullet points are well covered, and the ideas are extended with relevant details, such as mentioning specific computer skills. To reach a higher band, the explanation of why the job suits her could be expanded with even more personalized context about her career goals or specific experiences.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The letter demonstrates a clear logical organization and progression throughout. You effectively use paragraphing to structure your thoughts, with each paragraph serving a distinct purpose from the opening greeting to the final sign-off. Cohesive devices are handled well, using appropriate referencing like 'They are looking for' and 'You can either apply'. The transition between discussing the job description, suitability, and application steps flows naturally. To move towards the highest bands, you could introduce a wider range of advanced cohesive phrases to connect your sentences even more fluidly, avoiding any mechanical feel.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully conveying your message with everyday terms such as 'employment opportunity', 'proficiency', and 'resume'. However, there are some minor lexical inaccuracies and slightly unnatural collocations, such as writing 'interested to work' instead of 'interested in working' and 'reverting back emails' instead of 'replying to emails' or 'responding to emails'. You attempt some less common vocabulary, but these occasional errors in word choice and prepositional use show a typical profile for this band. Expanding your range of precise phrasal verbs and idiomatic business phrases would elevate your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You display a good mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over your overall syntax. Sentences like 'I'll more than happy to share my input' contain minor slip-ups (missing a verb like 'be'), but you successfully construct varied structures elsewhere, such as conditional and relative clauses. There are some minor grammatical errors, such as 'apply to this job' instead of 'apply for this job', but these do not impede communication at all. To achieve a higher grammatical band, you should aim to produce a greater frequency of error-free complex sentences and ensure tighter control over prepositions within specific grammatical patterns.
