Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Vikesh,

I hope you are doing well!

I am writing to inform you about the Mechanical designer job position in Mumbai, India, give that the job descripton is perfectly aligned with your education background. I found about this job on linkedin.

Since we had completed master in industrial engineering in the USA, the employer is looking for the candidate with the knowledge of industrial equipment designs and calculations. Although I understand that you are fresher with no hands on experience in this specefic area of work, the in the job posting they clearly mentioed that this position does not required any prior work history.

I believe you are a ideal candidate for this role. The main reason is that not only you qualify by your academic creadential for this work, but also your certifications for designing softwares play an important role, which positively impact on your resume.

To applying for this position, you need to create an account in the companie's career page and submit your current resume.

Let me know if you need any additional details regarding the employer.

Looking forward to see you in Mumbai.

All the best!

Yours faithfully,

Vivek

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You successfully cover all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You tell your friend about the Mechanical designer job position in Mumbai and the nature of the work, explain why it suits him due to your shared master's background and the employer's lack of experience requirements, and explain how to apply through the company's career page. Your response sits at this level because while all parts of the prompt are addressed, some ideas remain slightly under-developed. For instance, the explanation of the job duties could be expanded with more specific day-to-day tasks. To reach a higher band, you would need to extend your ideas more fully and ensure every bullet point is explored in greater depth with fully supported details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement and follows an appropriate friendly letter format, beginning with a proper salutation and closing with a suitable sign-off. You use paragraphing reasonably well to separate different points, such as the job details, suitability, and application process. However, cohesion is at times a bit mechanical or faulty, seen in transitions like 'give that' instead of 'given that' and some referencing that feels slightly abrupt. Progression through the text is generally clear, but to achieve a higher band, you need to ensure that cohesive devices are used more flexibly and naturally, and that referencing between sentences guides the reader seamlessly from one idea to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate vocabulary range for the task and successfully attempt less common vocabulary items like 'academic credential' and 'industrial engineering'. However, your writing contains several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that prevent a higher score, such as 'descripton' instead of 'description', 'fresher' instead of a more standard professional term, 'specefic', 'mentioed', 'required' instead of 'require', and 'creadential'. Additionally, phrases like 'a ideal candidate' show minor collocation and article slips. These errors do not impede communication, but to reach the next band, you must improve spelling accuracy and demonstrate a more precise control of less common lexical items and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating clauses with 'Although' and 'Since'. However, your writing features several grammatical errors in verb forms, prepositions, and sentence patterns. Examples include 'give that the job descripton is', 'We had completed master', 'candidate with the knowledge', 'the in the job posting they clearly mentioed', 'does not required', and 'To applying for this position'. There is also a punctuation slip in 'companie's'. These errors mean your grammar control falls short of producing frequent error-free sentences. To move up to the next band, you need to exercise better control over complex sentence structures, ensure correct verb tense usage, and eliminate persistent errors in prepositions and inflections.
