Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the prompt, meaning the candidate successfully tells the friend about the job at CG company, explains why it suits her IT background, and outlines the online application process. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and uneven. For instance, the details regarding the job's duties and the company are rather brief and lack extension. Similarly, the explanation of why the role suits Sarina is touched upon quickly rather than fully elaborated. This places the response in the territory where all parts of the prompt are addressed, but some areas remain under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear communicative purpose from the opening greeting to the closing sign-off. Paragraphing is used to separate the introduction, the main body detailing the job and suitability, and the conclusion explaining the application process. While some cohesive devices and referencing are occasionally mechanical or slightly repetitive, the logical flow between sentences and ideas is generally maintained. It fully demonstrates the characteristics of a lower-level performance while successfully achieving a clear structure and logical progression that reaches into the band above.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate everyday information and professional details such as 'renumeration', 'candidate account', and 'IT Engineer'. There are some attempts to use less common vocabulary, alongside noticeable lexical and spelling errors like 'feeled' (used as a past tense verb form), 'renumeration' (spelling of remuneration), and awkward collocations like 'studies in abroad' instead of 'studying abroad'. However, these vocabulary and spelling errors do not impede overall communication, allowing the reader to easily follow the message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing displays a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as relative clauses in 'a local company called CG company of Nepal which is one of the top company'. There are several grammatical errors present, including punctuation and comma splices in 'I hope you're doing well, I feeled delighted', missing articles as in 'find job', and subject-verb agreement issues like 'one of the top company'. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication and the basic meaning remains clear throughout the letter, reflecting a typical mix of accurate simple structures alongside faulty attempts at complex forms.
