Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear John,
I hope you are doing great. I am writing to inform you about a job opening in a local company here, which might be a right fir for you. This vacancy is for a restaurant supervisor in a newly opened restaurant near by my house. I saw their job posting yesterday while coming back from my work. The job duties and reponsibilities involve hiring of employees, training new staff, assign work to staff, helping manager to manage the store and some other as well.
I still remeber while we were studying once you told me about your future goal of opening your own restaurant. Moreover, you have a lot of experience working as a head chef in your own country, so i think this will be a suitable position for you in order to take as a first step towards your goal, as you will gain a lot of knowledge and experience.
The way to apply for this opening is very staright forward, as you just need to apply online through their official website. If you feel interested for this, please let me know, i will share the details to you soon. I hope this will be helpful to you.
Looking forward to your reply.
Best wishes,
Sandeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You successfully cover all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You tell your friend John about the restaurant supervisor position near your house, explain why it suits him by referencing his future goal of opening a restaurant and his background as a head chef, and finally explain how to apply through their official website. All parts of the prompt are addressed, though some ideas are slightly under-developed, such as the duties of the job which are listed rather than fully expanded upon. Your tone is appropriately friendly and conversational throughout the letter, establishing a clear purpose right from the beginning.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
Your letter shows a clear logical organisation and progression from your opening greeting to your closing sign-off. You use paragraphing appropriately, dividing your thoughts into clear sections covering the job description, the suitability of the role, and the application method. You utilise basic cohesive devices effectively, such as 'Moreover' and 'The way to apply for this opening', which help guide the reader through the text. However, referencing is occasionally slightly repetitive or mechanical, and smoother transitional phrases could elevate the flow further to achieve a higher band.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'restaurant supervisor', 'official website', and 'future goal'. However, there are a few noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occur throughout the text, such as writing 'right fir' instead of 'right fit', 'near by' instead of 'nearby', 'remeber' instead of 'remember', 'assign work' instead of 'assigning work', and 'staright forward' instead of 'straightforward'. These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent you from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You make use of a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as using subordinate clauses introduced by 'while' and 'as'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles and awkward phrasing in lists, such as 'hiring of employees, training new staff, assign work to staff', where parallelism is broken. Additionally, there are minor punctuation lapses, like a missing space after a full stop in the first paragraph. Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, and the majority of your sentences remain clear and understandable.
