Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear John,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to inform you about a job that I heard about recently. It is suitable for you.

This job is much more suitable to your educational background. It is in a clinical research department at a multinational company. It involves multiple responsibilities. Which includes regular monitoring visits at the hospital and regular assessment of the project progression. Along with that, regular follow-up with principal investigators with regard to targeted patient recruitment is the most crucial part of this job.

I think this job is more relatable to you. The paramount reason is that you have done six months of an internship in a clinical research organization. Moreover, you have better extensive knowledge about the ICH-GCP guideline. Furthermore, you have a variety of certificates related to this field. On top of that, you have done your master's in a clinical research.

To apply for this job, you have to reach the company's official website and make an official account. When you make an account, go to the career page. From there, you can apply for a suitable position. After sometime, if your profile gets selected, you will get a call from the human resources department.

Thank you for your cooperation. I am looking to your response.

Yours sincerely,

Shubham Savaliya

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you describe a clinical research role and its duties, explain the friend’s relevant internship, qualifications and master’s degree, and give a practical route through the company website and careers page. These details make the recommendation convincing and keep the letter focused. The job description is somewhat general, however, and the application guidance could be more complete—for example, mention preparing a CV and cover letter or provide a contact person if available. The closing, “Thank you for your cooperation,” sounds more like a formal business exchange than a friendly letter. A warmer, more personal tone and a little more specific information about the vacancy would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression: an opening, a paragraph about the role, a paragraph explaining why it suits John, and a final paragraph on applying. This organisation makes the information easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “On top of that” help connect supporting reasons. At times, however, these transitions are used in a list-like way, and the repeated “regular” in the job description makes the flow less smooth. The sentence beginning “Which includes” is also detached from the preceding sentence, interrupting the connection between the job and its duties. Combine related details into more fluid sentences and use a wider variety of references and transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use a suitable range of work-related vocabulary, including “clinical research department,” “principal investigators,” “patient recruitment,” and “human resources department.” Some less common choices, such as “paramount,” show an attempt to vary your language, and the meaning remains clear throughout. However, several phrases are unnatural or imprecise: “more relatable to you” does not naturally mean that the role matches John’s experience, while “better extensive knowledge” is an awkward combination. “Project progression” and “official account” could also be expressed more naturally in this context. Aim for accurate collocations rather than adding formal-sounding words; this would make the vocabulary more flexible and idiomatic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex forms, including the conditional “if your profile gets selected” and the relative clause “that I heard about recently.” Most of the message is understandable, and errors do not prevent the reader from following the advice. Some grammatical problems remain, though. “Which includes regular monitoring visits” is a sentence fragment and should be joined to the previous sentence. In “I am looking to your response,” the verb pattern is incorrect; use “I look forward to your response.” The phrase “you have done your master's in a clinical research” also needs a more accurate article and construction. Check sentence boundaries and verb patterns, and aim for more consistently accurate complex sentences.
