Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Dhruv,

How have you been doing? It seems like ages that we last spoke to each other. I hope everything is going with you and your loved ones. I wanted to let you know that i got your letter and felt extremly joy by hearing that you are moving to my country after getting tremedous sucess in your field.

Based on the question you asked about job i recently have found that in my local community , they are looking for someone so i believe you can try to find out job there. It is a Pharmacy assistant job which involves good customer service and helping in dispensing.

On top of that, you had a preety much high experince in customer service during our university days ; i think this would be a good start for you in this new journey.

For application, you would need to send a copy of your recent resume to the hiring manager and don't forget to put my name as a reference.

I can't wait to see you again my friend. Meet soon.

Your's lovingly

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three required points: you identify a pharmacy assistant vacancy, describe customer service and helping with dispensing, explain that your friend’s customer-service experience makes it suitable, and give an application step. The friendly tone and reference offer also fit the purpose of writing to a friend. However, some details are under-developed or unclear. “In my local community” does not identify the company or explain where the vacancy is, and the application instructions give only one step, without saying how to contact the hiring manager or whether to include a cover letter. Add a little practical detail about the employer and application process so the advice is more complete and useful.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall sequence: you open with personal news, introduce the vacancy, explain why it suits Dhruv, and finish with application advice and a friendly closing. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and links such as “On top of that” make the relationship between the job and his experience clear. The progression is generally easy to follow, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the opening spends several sentences on greetings before reaching the purpose. The phrase “Based on the question you asked about job” also makes the shift into the main topic less smooth. A more direct transition and clearer separation of the job details from the application instructions would make the organisation more polished.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the situation, including “Pharmacy assistant,” “customer service,” “dispensing,” “resume,” and “hiring manager,” so the reader can understand the main message. The friendly register is also appropriate. However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “extremly joy,” “tremedous sucess,” “preety,” and “experince.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “find out job there” and “good start for you in this new journey.” These errors do not prevent understanding, but they make the letter less fluent and can distract the reader. Check spelling carefully and choose more natural collocations when describing the vacancy and your friend’s suitability.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple sentences and longer structures, for example, “I wanted to let you know that…” and the sentence explaining why Dhruv’s experience suits the role. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. Examples include “It seems like ages that we last spoke” (use “since we last spoke”), “I hope everything is going with you,” and “Based on the question you asked about job.” There are also inconsistent capitalisation and punctuation choices, such as the lowercase “i” and the comma before “they are looking.” The closing “Your’s lovingly” also needs correction. Review sentence patterns, articles, and punctuation, while retaining the range of sentence forms you have attempted.
