Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Vedant,
I recently got to know that you are looking for a job in my homeland and I would be glad to recommend you for one of the positions, recently opened, in my company.
My company recently started a new project and they are looking for suitable candidates for Site-Manager role in a closeby city named, Hamilton. The position needs someone who has experience in leading a team of 5 customer service representatives. As the manager of the location, you will be tasked with responsibilities such as problem solving, employee management, preparing a schedule, maintaining the store standards and dealing with local vendors.
You will be running a site for the company. The head-office of the company is in calgary, AB. Practically, you will gain experience of running a whole store on your own. This would be benificial for your future goal of opening a business. You can apply through the companies official website or via job-posting on linkedin.
Do share your resume with me, if you are interested. I would be glad to talk to the hiring-manager and put some good words for you.
Best wishes,
Milan Vadgama.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three requirements clearly: you describe the Site Manager role and its duties, explain its relevance to your friend’s business ambitions, and give two application routes. The personal offer to speak to the hiring manager also makes the advice useful and appropriate for a friend. The explanation of suitability is relevant, particularly the chance to gain experience running a store, though it could be developed further by linking specific duties—such as managing staff or dealing with vendors—to your friend’s experience or strengths. The application guidance is clear but could be more precise about what to submit and how to find the vacancy. Overall, the purpose and tone are consistently clear, with some room to extend the supporting details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear progression: you introduce the opportunity, describe the role, explain its potential benefit, and finish with application advice and an offer of help. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and phrases such as “As the manager of the location” and “This would be beneficial” help connect details to the main point. The letter is easy to follow throughout. Some links between ideas could be smoother: the paragraph beginning “You will be running a site” repeats the role description before moving to its benefit, and the application instructions could be separated more clearly from the explanation of suitability. More varied, precise transitions and tighter grouping of related points would make the organisation feel more polished.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use a suitable range of job-related vocabulary, including “customer service representatives,” “employee management,” “local vendors,” and “hiring-manager.” These choices make the role and your advice specific, and the meaning remains clear. There are also attempts at less common or professional wording, such as “responsibilities” and “recommend.” However, some expressions are awkward or imprecise: “got to know that” is less natural than “heard that,” while “put some good words for you” is not idiomatic. Spelling and form errors such as “closeby,” “benificial,” and “head-office” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully to make the vocabulary more flexible and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The letter includes a mix of simple and more complex structures, such as “I would be glad to recommend you” and “This would be beneficial for your future goal of opening a business.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the sequence of duties is understandable. Some grammatical and punctuation issues remain. For example, “a Site-Manager role” needs an article before the role title, and “a closeby city named, Hamilton” has an unnecessary comma and an awkward sentence pattern. In “The head-office of the company is in calgary, AB,” the city name should be capitalised. The sentence “You can apply through the companies official website or via job-posting on linkedin” also needs clearer grammatical phrasing and punctuation. More accurate articles, possessives, and sentence construction would strengthen control.
