Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address the three main points: you identify a local Tim Hortons vacancy, describe customer service and shift options, and explain that your friend can send you a résumé and cover letter. Your reasons for suitability—flexible shifts, customer-service experience, pay, and promotion opportunities—are relevant. However, some details are unclear or only briefly developed. For example, “you can do another job with it” does not explain how the shifts would fit around other work, and the job duties are described mainly as working at a place where people buy coffee and snacks. Clarify the role and its responsibilities, and give a more specific application process, such as where to submit the documents or what information to include. The friendly purpose is clear, but the letter would benefit from fuller, more precise coverage of each point.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The message has a generally sensible order: you introduce the vacancy, explain why it may suit your friend, and then describe how to apply. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “according to me” and “for applying this job” signal the topic of each section. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. The opening moves quickly from your friend’s request to the company, while “so” is repeated to connect several ideas. In the suitability paragraph, the relationship between flexible shifts and doing another job could be made clearer. Use more precise transitions and ensure each paragraph develops one main point. A conventional closing and a sign-off with your name would also make the letter feel more complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough task-related vocabulary to communicate the main message, including “night shift,” “customer service,” “promotions,” “resume,” and “cover letter.” These choices show awareness of the job-application context. However, the range is limited, and several spelling or word-choice errors make the letter less natural, such as “appying,” “accoridng,” “week points,” and “availiability.” Some phrases are also awkward or imprecise: “one company name like Tim Horton” and “a famous place in Canada where people like to go for coffee and snacks.” Choose more exact expressions, such as “a vacancy at Tim Hortons” and “develop your customer-service skills.” Proofread spelling and use natural collocations to make your meaning easier to follow.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the reader can usually understand the intended message. For instance, you connect the job’s shift options to its suitability and explain that you could forward the application to the manager. However, errors occur frequently in sentence structure, verb forms, articles, and punctuation. “I saw your letter that you write for me” mixes tenses and uses an unclear clause; “if you want to do this so I can help” needs a clearer conditional structure; and “I sent it to the manager” should use a future form if this is what you plan to do. Capital letters are also missing at the start of sentences and for “I.” Practise accurate sentence patterns and check tense consistency, articles, and punctuation.
