Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sai,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to inform you about the job post in my home country which I came across in Indeed while browsing the application.
Firstly, it's an intermediate bookkeeping role in a CPA firm. The major responsibilites of the role is updating day to day transactions, processing payroll and filing GST/HST. I believe this will be the perfect role to start a career in bookkeeping. As per my understanding you have theoretical knowledge on accounts, However, you never get a chance to work in the accounting field. Therefore, working in a CPA firm will give an oppurtunity to explore different industries.
One of my friend is working in the same firm, I will check with her to refer you to the role. If she did not respond to my message by tomorrow, I will share the job post via whatsapp, you apply directly from the Indeed. If you want to know more about the job details meanwhile check in the indeed, name of the firm is Bazar Mcbean LLP.
If you need any further details, please let me know, I am happy to help you.
With love,
Pranusha

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three requirements clearly. You describe the bookkeeping role and its duties—updating transactions, processing payroll, and filing GST/HST—then explain its suitability by linking it to Sai’s accounting knowledge and limited practical experience. You also give a practical application route: asking your friend at the firm about a referral, then sharing the Indeed posting. These details make the advice relevant and purposeful. To develop the response further, clarify the job’s location or any key requirements, and make the application steps more definite; the referral plan is conditional, and “you apply directly” does not explain what materials or process are needed. Overall, the main ideas are extended and supported, though a few details remain general.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear progression from introducing the opportunity, to explaining why it suits Sai, to describing how to apply. Paragraphing supports these stages, and the opening and closing are appropriate for a friendly letter. Connectors such as “Firstly,” “Therefore,” and “If” help show relationships between ideas, although the sequence markers can feel somewhat mechanical and “Firstly” is not followed by a corresponding “Secondly.” The long application paragraph also combines the referral, a possible delay, and the direct application route, making the steps less easy to follow. Separate these options or present them in a clearer order, and use pronouns or linking phrases carefully so each reference remains unmistakable.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including relevant terms such as “bookkeeping,” “payroll,” “GST/HST,” and “CPA firm.” These make the job description specific and understandable. There are, however, some spelling and word-choice problems, including “responsibilites,” “oppurtunity,” and “whatsapp.” A few phrases are also less natural or precise: “browsing the application” is unclear, and “intermediate bookkeeping role” may not convey the level as naturally as “bookkeeping position.” Aim for accurate spelling and more idiomatic collocations, especially when describing how you found the vacancy and what experience the role offers. The message remains clear despite these slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response includes both simple sentences and more complex forms, such as “As per my understanding you have theoretical knowledge on accounts, However, you never get a chance…” and the conditional sentence beginning “If she did not respond…”. Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “The major responsibilities of the role is” has a subject–verb agreement problem; “One of my friend” needs a plural noun; and “you apply directly from the Indeed” is not formed as a clear instruction. The sentence beginning “If she did not respond” also needs a more suitable tense for a future possibility. Check agreement, articles, and conditional verb forms, and use punctuation to separate contrasting clauses.
