Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Thomas,

I hope you are well, it is great to hear from you, long time no see. I would love to help you find a job here in Ireland and I may have a potential suitable role for you.

The job title is support worker for a charity I completed a work placement at a few years ago I found out about the role from an old colleague. The duties are pretty broad and it would involve a range of things, such as helping young people engage in community acitivities like youth clubs and formal activities such as attending school.

I think this would be really suitable to you because of your strong interpersonel skills and also if I remember correcrly you have experience in a similar type of job in your home country. Also, it is located in the city centre and is accesible by public transport so you wouldn't even need a car.

If you are interested in this job, the best way to apply for it is via Seek, the employment platform. They have a website and app. Have a search for support worker and you will find the job.

Kind regards,

Niall

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three points clearly: you describe the support-worker role and its duties, explain its suitability through Thomas’s interpersonal skills and related experience, and give a way to apply. The details about supporting young people with community activities and school attendance make the opportunity concrete, while the city-centre location adds a practical reason it may suit him. The purpose and friendly tone are clear throughout. To make the response more fully developed, clarify the application steps: for example, give the charity’s name, explain how to locate the specific listing, or mention what documents to submit. The suitability point could also be extended with a more direct link between his past experience and the role’s duties.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information follows a clear, logical sequence: greeting and purpose, job description, reasons for suitability, and application instructions. Paragraphing helps the reader distinguish these stages, and links such as “because” and “Also” make the reasoning easy to follow. The letter format and sign-off are appropriate for a friend. Some sentences, however, carry several ideas without enough punctuation or separation, particularly the job-title sentence, which runs from the role into how you heard about it and then into the duties. Breaking this into shorter sentences would make the progression smoother. The application paragraph is clear but could connect more explicitly to the specific vacancy rather than relying on “Have a search.”

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “support worker,” “work placement,” “community activities,” “interpersonal skills,” and “employment platform.” These choices communicate the job and its suitability effectively, and the tone is generally natural for a personal letter. There are some spelling errors, including “acitivities,” “interpersonel,” “correcrly,” and “accesible,” which reduce accuracy. A few expressions are also broad or informal for describing a vacancy: “pretty broad” and “a range of things” could be replaced with more precise wording about responsibilities. Aim to use specific terms for the duties and application process, while retaining the friendly tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

The response includes a mix of simple and more complex forms, such as the reason clause in “because of your strong interpersonal skills” and the conditional opening “If you are interested in this job.” Meaning remains clear, but some punctuation and sentence-boundary errors affect accuracy. For example, “I hope you are well, it is great to hear from you, long time no see” joins several independent thoughts with commas, and the sentence beginning “The job title is support worker” also needs clearer separation. The phrase “suitable to you” is not the correct grammatical pattern; use “suitable for you.” Review comma splices and sentence boundaries, and vary sentence structures while keeping each sentence controlled.
