Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Saim,
I am writing this letter in response to our conversation last month, when we were together in university workshop. You were discussing about seeking for job here in Pakistan. Fortunately, last evening I met my one of the favourite teacher in a gathering and he was searching for part-time evaluator for his school.
Quickly your name came into my mind as your experience matches well with this job. First of all you are having very good skills in evaluation and you are experienced as well, having few short courses on evaluation monitoring as well. Secondly, as the team is requirning a part time candidate so its really suits you. Finally, I know you personally that you are a extremely hard working and learned person who always give his best. It will be a great opportunity for you as well.
In conclusion, if you are interested, I am sending you the e-mail and the draft for the job having all the requirement given.
I will be delighted if this proposal will help you in getting job. It will be appreciated to let me know from your side about this proposal.
Besr regards,
Umaima Kamran

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address the main purpose of the letter and give a reason the job may suit Saim, referring to his evaluation skills, experience, and work ethic. However, the job description is quite limited: we learn it is a part-time evaluator role at a school, but not what evaluating involves. The application instructions are also unclear; saying you are sending an email and “the draft” does not explain who to contact, what to submit, or how to apply. The friendly tone is appropriate, but the final request for a reply could be clearer. Develop these details so each bullet point is fully covered and the reader can act on your advice.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a generally clear sequence: you introduce the earlier conversation, present the job, explain why Saim may suit it, and finish with application-related information. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “First of all,” “Secondly,” and “Finally” make the reasons easy to follow. Some linking is mechanical, however, and the conclusion beginning “In conclusion” feels more like an essay than a personal letter. The reference to “the e-mail and the draft” is also unclear because the reader is not told what the draft contains. Use more natural transitions and make references explicit to improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the central ideas, including “part-time evaluator,” “experience,” and “opportunity.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “evaluation monitoring,” though the phrase is not clearly explained. Several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “seeking for job,” “my one of the favourite teacher,” and “learned person.” Spelling errors such as “requirning” and “Besr” are noticeable, and “proposal” is not the most natural term for a job lead. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall message, but more accurate, natural phrasing would make the letter clearer and more polished.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and longer sentence forms, including the sentence explaining why Saim’s experience matches the role and the sequence of reasons beginning “First of all.” The main message remains understandable, but there are some errors in sentence construction and grammatical patterns. For example, “when we were together in university workshop” is missing an article, while “you are a extremely hard working” has an article error. “I know you personally that you are” uses an incorrect clause pattern, and “I will be delighted if this proposal will help you” has an awkward conditional structure. Review articles, clause construction, and conditional forms, while keeping some of your longer sentences.
