Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Joy,
How have you been? hope you are doing great too. I am writing concerning your request in finding a job in my country. Someone I know had told me about a vacancy at a local company close to my area.
The job is secretary to the manager of the company. It involves planning, scheduling, organizing meetings and attending the gathering with the manager at all time. It also involve writing and replying mails, everything about the manager and his time will be organized by you.
I believe the work is suitable for you because you are well articulated and opinionated. You bear the skills needed for the job. I know you would fit in well into the job.
To apply for the job, you have to prepare you resume and cover letter to suit the job. I will send you their application email address where you would send all the required documents. They requested for work experience letter if you have any, certificates, research and passport.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you my dear friend. See you soon.
Kind regards
Lynda.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you identify a secretary role, describe duties such as scheduling and arranging meetings, explain why Joy’s communication skills may suit it, and give application steps and documents. The letter also maintains a friendly, appropriate tone, with a clear opening and sign-off. The job description and suitability are relevant, but some details are general: “You bear the skills needed” does not specify which skills match the duties, and the application instructions could clarify the deadline or what the company expects in the research and passport documents. Developing these details with a little more explanation would make the response more fully supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter is organised in a clear sequence: introduction, job description, reasons for suitability, application instructions, and closing. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow each part, and links such as “because” and “To apply for the job” make the relationships between ideas clear. The progression is logical throughout. Some connections and references could be more precise, however: “Someone I know” is not identified further, and “They requested” has an unclear reference after the company is mentioned. The list of application documents also feels abrupt. Use clearer references and connect the items to the application process more smoothly to make the organisation even more polished.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the role and application process, including “vacancy,” “scheduling,” “organizing meetings,” “resume,” and “cover letter.” These choices are relevant to a job enquiry, and the reader can understand the main message. However, some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “attending the gathering,” “at all time,” and “well articulated and opinionated.” “Writing and replying mails” is also an awkward collocation, while “research and passport” is unclear in this context. Aim for more precise workplace vocabulary and check common word partnerships; this would make the letter sound more natural and professional without changing its friendly tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both short statements and longer sentences, and most ideas remain understandable. There are, however, recurring errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “hope you are doing great too” needs a subject and capital letter, “It also involve” should agree with “It,” and “prepare you resume” needs a possessive form. The phrase “at all time” also has a number agreement problem. Some sentences combine several duties without clear grammatical links, particularly the sentence beginning “It involves planning.” Review subject–verb agreement, possessives, and sentence boundaries, then proofread for these patterns to improve accuracy and control.
