Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Smith,
It's been years since we last met. I truly hope you will be fine and happy. It was a quality time that we spent together while studying abroad. Let me tell you that I had passed my masters degree from the university of London , and now working as veterinarin in one of the prestigious clinic's of Pakistan. I extremly enjoyed my job because as you know that I am a Pet lover, and love to treat the animlals which are suffering from different diseases.
Anyhow, one of our mutual friend's has told me that you are looking for a new job as you quit the last one. Is that right ?. Let me tell you about my story when I came back to my country. I had joined a call center in Lahore, and they were paying me a handsome salary. Now I talked to the manager of this comany that they should hire you.
I knew that you are quite good in communication, so you are the strongest candidate for this role. Also, you have an extra ordinary English speaking skill which they need the most.
Last but not least , you have to apply for this job on their website online. The website name is w.w.w.pk.center .com. When you open the page you will see a short quiz and some fill in the blanks. After filling them submit it. It's the complete procedure.
Hope you will be there soon . I can't wait to meet you. take care
Best wishes,
Ali raza

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address the three main points: you describe a call-centre job, explain that your friend’s communication and English skills suit it, and give an online application process. The recommendation is relevant and the friendly purpose is clear. However, the job description is quite limited: “they were paying me a handsome salary” tells the reader about pay, but not what the work involves. The application instructions are also difficult to follow because the website address is unclear and the “short quiz” and form are not explained in enough detail. Develop these points with specific duties, such as handling customer calls, and clearer application steps to make the letter more fully informative.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter has a recognisable structure, moving from personal news to the job, your reasons for recommending your friend, and application instructions. Paragraph breaks help separate these topics, and phrases such as “Anyhow” and “Last but not least” signal transitions. However, the progression is sometimes weakened by irrelevant or abrupt details: the opening spends considerable space on your veterinary work before introducing the vacancy, and “Let me tell you about my story” does not clearly connect to the job information that follows. Some linking phrases feel mechanical, while the final application directions are compressed into one long sequence. Keep the opening brief and use clearer links between the vacancy, its duties, and the application process.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main message, including relevant terms such as “manager,” “candidate,” “communication,” and “apply.” There are also attempts at more expressive language, for example “handsome salary” and “prestigious.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “veterinarin,” “animlals,” and “comany,” and some phrases are unnatural or imprecise, such as “quality time” for time spent studying together and “extra ordinary English speaking skill.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall purpose, but they reduce clarity and naturalness. Check spelling carefully and choose more precise job-related expressions, such as “customer service role” and “strong spoken English.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and longer sentences, and the letter’s meaning is generally understandable. However, errors occur frequently in verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “now working as” needs a subject and auxiliary, while “I had passed my masters degree” uses an unsuitable tense for this context. In “one of our mutual friend's has told me,” the possessive and verb agreement are incorrect, and “Is that right ?” has faulty punctuation. Some sentences also join ideas awkwardly, as in “When you open the page you will see a short quiz and some fill in the blanks. After filling them submit it.” Practise accurate past and present forms, sentence boundaries, and punctuation while retaining your attempts at longer structures.
